Brothers Union secured their place in next season’s Bashundhara Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (BDPL) with a dominant 113-run win over Partex Sporting Club in the final Relegation League match at Mirpur on Thursday, ensuring their survival while condemning Partex and Shinepukur Cricket Club to relegation.
Set a daunting target of 295, Partex never truly looked at ease in their chase, folding for 181 in 37.1 overs despite a valiant 85 off 74 balls from wicketkeeper-batter Adil Bin Siddik. His counter-attacking innings, featuring nine fours and two sixes, offered some resistance, but lacked support from the rest of the batting order.
Rakibul Atik (3-36) and Alok Kapali (3-47) were instrumental with the ball for Brothers, striking at regular intervals.
Kapali's dismissal of Adil — lbw — was the decisive blow that extinguished any hope of a late resurgence. Salauddin Sakil also made early inroads with two wickets, removing both openers inside the powerplay.
Earlier, Brothers Union posted a formidable 294 for 9, thanks largely to a blistering 98 from Mahfijul Islam, who was named Player of the Match. His knock came off just 97 balls and included 10 boundaries and five sixes. Captain Myshukur Rahaman chipped in with a composed 50, while Aich Mollah (48) and Mizanur Rahman (42) provided vital middle-order support.
Despite a few stumbles in the death overs, Brothers maintained a healthy run rate throughout. Yasen Muntasir (2 for 34) was the most effective bowler for Partex, but the rest struggled to contain the flow of runs.
With this win, Brothers Union finished the Relegation League with 9 points and a net run rate of -0.466, placing them safely at the top of the three-team table. Partex ended with 8 points and a significantly poorer net run rate of -1.252, while Shinepukur, having managed just a single win in 13 matches, finished bottom with 2 points and an NRR of -1.505.
