A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of 9.45 acres of land and the freezing of moveable assets worth Tk28.4 crore belonging to former Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives minister Md Tajul Islam.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib on Sunday granted the petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to the ACC, the seized properties include land in Dhaka, Cumilla and Narayanganj, as well as two commercial spaces, one flat and a shop in Cumilla. In addition, Tk20.56 crore deposited across 34 bank accounts under the name of the former minister and affiliated entities has been frozen.
The court also ordered the freezing of shares worth Tk5.23 crore in 16 companies and three vehicles valued at Tk2.60 crore, bringing the total value of the frozen movable assets to Tk28.39 crore. Allegations of money laundering and illegal wealth
The ACC alleges that Tajul Islam amassed assets worth Tk7.8 crore beyond known sources of income and engaged in suspicious financial transactions amounting to over Tk139.7 crore, which include Tk73.6 crore in deposits and Tk66.1 crore in withdrawals across multiple accounts.
A case was filed by the ACC against the former minister on charges of corruption, bribery and money laundering. The commission claims that the wealth was acquired illegally and that the transactions were carried out to conceal the origins of the illicit funds.
