BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman said on Sunday that foreign hegemonic powers are moving forward with a grand plan to impose cultural dominance in Bangladesh.
“Foreign hegemonic masters are advancing with a calculated strategy to spread cultural dominance and undermine the deep-rooted bond of language and culture that has developed over centuries. We must remain alert and vigilant,” he wrote in a post on his verified Facebook page, marking the Bangla New Year and Pahela Baishakh.
Highlighting the importance of cultural identity, Tarique Rahman said, “To establish a vibrant democracy, we must build a permanent framework for a pluralistic democratic system – one that reflects the culture, traditions, and liberal outlook of our people.”
He described the first day of Baishakh as a significant aspect of national identity. “Every year, the New Year inspires us to march forward on the path of progress and excellence, illuminated by the light of hope,” he said.
Reflecting on the past year, Tarique Rahman said that as the Bangla year 1431 ends, people now stand at the threshold of an unknown time and space with the dawn of 1432.
“The world is witnessing bloodshed in many places. We cannot remain stuck in a puzzle without seeking a solution for peace. Self-interest will never bring resolution.”
“If we seek a selfless solution, bloodshed can be avoided, and peace won’t have to be delayed. We must overcome the fatigue, disappointment, and sorrow of the past year and move ahead with renewed enthusiasm,” he added.
He noted that the Bangla calendar is an essential part of daily life and economic activities, making it an integral element of national culture and a source of spiritual reflection.
“On the first day of the New Year, I wish everyone well-being and peace. May the warmth of Boishakh wipe out untruth, injustice, lawlessness, and unrest from society. Let the fresh breeze of peace flow freely, and may the world be filled with harmony and hope,” he said.
“The Bangla New Year is a unique and heartfelt celebration for all Bangladeshis. I extend my sincere greetings and best wishes to everyone at home and abroad on this joyous occasion,” he added.
