The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has instructed its crime and detective divisions to obtain prior permission before arresting any accused individuals in the cases filed over murders and other incidents related to the July uprising.

A written directive, signed by DMP Joint Commissioner (Crime) Faruk Hossain, was sent to the Additional Commissioner (DB), Deputy Commissioners (crime divisions), and Officers-in-Charge (OCs) in this regard on 9 April.

Nasrin Sultana, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media and PR) of the DMP, confirmed the directive to the Daily Sun on Saturday.

The DMP directive stated, “The number of accused in most of the cases filed in connection with the July uprising is considerably high. Proper evidence must be ensured, and prior permission must be obtained from higher authorities before arresting both those named in the cases and those identified through investigation.”
