Ashraf Dowla, founder and former chairman of Special Olympics Bangladesh, passed away on Thursday in the United States of America (USA). He was 89.

Special Olympics Bangladesh has expressed profound shock at the death of the veteran organiser and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.

In a message of condolence, signed by the National Director of Special Olympics Bangladesh Farukul Islam, the organisation recalled Ashraf Dowla as a compassionate, visionary and advanced sports organiser who touched the lives of numerous mentally challenged individuals of the country by establishing Special Olympics Bangladesh.

The organisation also stated that Ashraf Dowla will forever remain a source of inspiration.

Mentionable, Ashraf Dowla received the National Sports Award in 1996.
