Cricketers from Partex Sporting Club have threatened to boycott their next match in the Bashundhara Dhaka Premier League (BDPL) due to unpaid wages, escalating tensions within one of the tournament's struggling teams.

Players skipped training and submitted a formal letter to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), seeking intervention from its Chief Executive Officer, Nizamuddin Chowdhury on Wednesday. As the CEO was unavailable at the time, the players met BCB’s Head of Cricket Operations, Nazmul Abedin Fahim, urging swift action on their payment issues.

Partex, currently 11th in the league table with just two wins from nine matches, have been plagued by off-field troubles mirroring their poor form on the pitch. Senior players Sabbir Rahman and Mukhtar Ali led a group of 17 cricketers who signed the letter, alleging that most of the squad had received only 15 to 20 percent of their agreed wages, while only a few were paid up to 50 percent.

“The payment issue has been ongoing. Despite repeated assurances, we haven’t received our dues,” Mukhtar Ali told reporters. “Today we skipped training. Tomorrow (Thursday), we won’t play the match,” he added.

“Our salaries are already low. Some have received just Tk10,000, some Tk100,000. Very few got half of what was promised,” he said.

Although the team played one match after Eid, the players claim no meaningful steps have been taken to resolve the crisis. Some even alleged they were threatened when they demanded their wages.

Wicketkeeper-batter Joyraj Sheikh stated that the club has started registering new players, possibly to replace the protesting regulars.

“We played through the scorching heat of Ramadan. And now, they’re planning to replace us. When we asked for our dues, we were threatened,” he said.

Partex are scheduled to face Gazi Group Cricketers on Thursday at BKSP-3, but may be forced to field a makeshift squad—if any at all.

Club official Sazzad Hossain, however, claimed that 60 percent of the players’ wages had been paid, and an additional 20 percent would be cleared soon.

“The tournament is nearing its end, and maybe that’s why the players are anxious. But we will clear all dues,” he assured.

Meanwhile, head coach Anwarul Mostakim was seen preparing a group of young, lesser-known players—Adil Bin Siddiq, Ahrar Amin, Ashraful Islam, and Yasin Muntasir—for Thursday’s fixture, signaling the club may proceed without its core squad amid the boycott threat.

When asked about the situation, Sabbir Ahmed Rubel, Coordinator of the Dhaka Premier Division for the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM), said, “We spoke to the club. They claimed to have paid 60 percent of the wages before Eid. However, we will look into the matter and review the payment documents. If any party is found to be misleading us, strict action will be taken.”
