Double Murder in Bakalia
Two persons were shot to death and two others were injured in an armed attack in the city’s Bakalia Access Road in the early hours of Sunday.
Sources said three to four motorcycles chased a private car and opened fire indiscriminately in the Access Road around 2:30am.
Abdullah and Manik, who were in the car, died in the attack.
The victims were reportedly followers of Sarwar Hossain, a top-listed criminal of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP).
The killing might have taken place to take revenge over arrest of another top-notch criminal Chhoto Sajjad, a rival of Sarwar in the criminal activities.
Sajjad, accused of at least 17 cases filed on different charges, including for murder and extortion, was arrested from the capital on 15 March.
His wife, Tamanna Sharmin, also threatened in a Facebook live session to take revenge for the arrest of her husband.
Victim Manik’s mother Feroza Begum filed a case with the Bakalia Police Station accusing seven persons, including Sajjad and Tamanna, on Tuesday.
Contacted, Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Deputy Commissioner (South) Shakila Sultana said, "We are investigating to unearth the motive and identify the persons behind the double murder in Bakolia."
On the other hand, on Eid day, Borhan Uddin, an expatriate in Qatar, died from electrocution in Mirsharai upazila of the district.
On the same day, Shyamal Chowdhury was killed in a clash allegedly over land boundaries in the city’s North Kattali area.
Besides, housewife Urmi Akter died after being severely burned while cooking on the Eid day at Anwara upazila in the district.
On Tuesday, one Nurul Alam Bakul was killed in an attack by his brother over a land dispute at Haldia union under Raozan upazila in the district.
On the same day, police recovered the hanging body of Tanzina, a housewife, from Baraiardala union under Sitakunda upazila.
