Lieutenant General Joel P Vowell, Deputy Commanding General of the US Army Pacific, paid a two-day official visit to Bangladesh on 24-25 March, meeting with Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman and other senior officials of the Bangladesh Armed Forces.
During his visit, Lieutenant General Vowell reinforced the US Army's commitment to strengthening ties with the Bangladesh Army while addressing shared security concerns and ongoing military cooperation, according to the US Embassy in Dhaka.

Key discussions included Bangladesh's domestic security efforts, particularly its role in disaster response, and potential areas where the US could provide support.
The visit also covered preparations for Exercise TIGER LIGHTNING, scheduled for Summer 2025, and the possible acquisition of US-origin military equipment to enhance interoperability and operational capabilities.
Additionally, Lieutenant General Vowell commended the professionalism of the Bangladesh military and emphasised the role of well-trained armed forces in maintaining regional stability.
Vowell received his commission as an Infantry officer from the University of Alabama in 1991. Over the course of his career, he has been stationed in Europe, the Pacific, the Middle East and various posts across the United States.
Prior to his current assignment, he commanded the US Army Japan/I Corps (FWD) and most recently served as Commander of CJTF-Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq and Syria.
