The National Board of Revenue has launched a new Spot Assessment program across the country with the aim of expanding the tax net by simplifying the tax payment system and bringing it to the taxpayer's doorstep.

“The tax office will be present at businesses to provide return filing services to those with taxable income who are not filing income tax returns," said Md Al-Amin Shaikh, Public Relations Officer of NBR, to the Daily Sun on Wednesday.

“Various tax zones of the country have already started this programme, which is playing an important role in increasing tax awareness and building a tax paying culture among businessmen, professionals and the general public,” he also said.

“Taxpayers with taxable income who are required to file returns but have not done so will be provided with simplified return filing services directly at their business locations," he added.

According to the NBR, Tax Commissioners are supervising these activities in their respective jurisdictions and taking steps to file income tax returns by setting up camps at designated locations and assisting businessmen, professionals, and general taxpayers in filling their returns directly online.

At the same time, taxpayers are getting the opportunity to resolve income tax-related complications by receiving necessary advice.

The NBR has called on all business organisations, chambers of commerce, business leaders, local administrations, dignitaries, and taxpayers to provide support and cooperation to make the ongoing spot assessment activities a success.

The revenue board believes that the Spot Assessment Programme will increase tax compliance among taxpayers and strengthen the tax system.

It will directly contribute to the financing needed to ensure the country's infrastructure development, education, health, and other civic amenities by continuing to invest in ongoing development projects.
