Veteran journalist Shafik Rehman has regained the declaration for Jai Jai Din, one of Bangladesh’s renowned national dailies.
An official order issued by Dhaka District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner Tanvir Ahmed on Tuesday confirmed the development.
Nusrat Naushin, assistant commissioner and executive magistrate (Publication and Printing Branch) at the Dhaka District Administration Office, provided the update.
Earlier, the government had cancelled the declaration of Jai Jai Din following an application by its former editor, Shafik Rehman, who alleged that the newspaper had violated publication rules. According to the office order, the newspaper had not been printed from the authorised press, and false information was allegedly included in the printer's line.
After taking all necessary measures, including issuing a show-cause notice and investigating the complaint, the publication licence for the newspaper was revoked.
The order stated that Jai Jai Din's publication had violated Section 10 of the Printing Presses and Publications (Declaration and Registration) Act of 1973. As a result, the declaration in the name of Sayeed Hossain Chowdhury, the publisher and printer of Jai Jai Din, was cancelled.
