KHANI Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Food Security Network, has issued a strong call to action, urging the United Nations (UN) and the global community to address the ongoing funding crisis for Rohingya refugees.
The organisation has submitted a petition to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, demanding the immediate restoration of food rations and essential services to prevent a worsening humanitarian crisis.
The petition, signed by over 110 national, regional, and international organisations—including FIAN Indonesia, FIAN Switzerland, ADAB, ALRD, CSRL, ActionAid Australia, ActionAid Bangladesh, BARCIK, COAST Foundation, Cox’s Bazar Civil Society Alliance (CCNF), INCIDIN Bangladesh, and the NGO Forum on ADB-emphasises both short- and long-term funding solutions to secure food and nutrition assistance for the Rohingyas. The document also highlights the importance of creating opportunities for self-sufficiency through proper rehabilitation efforts.
A recent report by the World Food Programme (WFP) warns that without urgent funding, food rations for the Rohingya population will be slashed from $12.50 per person per month to just $6. Expressing deep concern over this drastic reduction, KHANI Bangladesh cautions that such a move could severely exacerbate the existing humanitarian crisis.
