BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas has said that efforts are being made to create excuses to delay the national elections in the country.
“Some people are trying to find excuses to delay the election process, instead of holding the elections. Both domestic and foreign conspiracies are at work,” he said.
The BNP leader made these remarks while speaking to reporters after visiting the party’s ailing Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at United Hospital in the capital on Tuesday.

“If Bangladesh becomes unstable, many will suffer. Those who want to postpone the election will be the ones to suffer. No excuse should be made to delay the election process,” he added.
Responding to a question about NCP leader Sarjis Alam’s statement, “Until the day we see the murderer Hasina on the gallows, no one should talk about elections even by mistake,” Mirza Abbas said the leaders of the new party are entitled to express their views, as everyone wants the trial of "fascist" Hasina.

“I want the Awami League and the fascist government to be held accountable. BNP wants this, and everyone wants it. No one is saying that the trial should be closed. It is not that any court is closed or speeds up before or after the election. The court operates according to its own procedures,” he said.
“Let the trial proceed in a speedy trial court, but no excuse will be accepted to delay the election process,” he added.
