The University Grants Commission (UGC) has invited proposals from teachers, students and stakeholders for naming a new fully accredited university comprising seven government colleges in Dhaka.
On Tuesday, the UGC approved an official note regarding the name proposal. According to the note, members of the public can submit their suggested names via email to [email protected] within the next five working days.
In response to student protests, the government had formed a high-level expert committee to assess the feasibility of establishing a university with these colleges. The committee, headed by UGC Chairman Professor SMA Fayez, has already held discussions with 12 stakeholder groups, including students. A framework for the proposed university is expected to be published soon.
The seven colleges under consideration are Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Titumir College, Mirpur Government Bangla College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Women’s College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College and Kabi Nazrul Government College.
