Equality Begins with Empowered Youth
A A

The role of youth in the progress of society is immense. They are the representative of new ideas, innovative thoughts and change. However, the foundation required for this change and progress is equality.

Equality means equal opportunities, rights and dignity for all individuals. When young people grow up in an equitable society, they can realise their full potential. Equal participation in education, employment and social opportunities enhances their confidence and capabilities.

Employment

If youth are provided with equal opportunities in various sectors of society, they can leverage their innovative thinking and skills to open new horizons. For example, in fields such as technology, industry, environment and social justice, the contribution of youth is invaluable. They bring fresh ideas that accelerate the development of society. The concept of equality is crucial not only on a personal level but also in leadership. When young leaders prioritise everyone’s voice and embrace diverse perspectives, they contribute to building a strong and inclusive society. This type of leadership fosters unity among youth and promotes collaboration and mutual respect.

Although there are many obstacles on the path to equality, young people are always prepared to face these challenges. They are becoming vocal about social justice, gender equality and economic opportunities. Their movements and efforts may bring about positive change to society. Recently, on 25 November 2024, a project titled ‘Shomotay Tarunno Project’ was launched under the initiative of Plan International Bangladesh, funded by the Government of the Netherlands. This four-year project aims to prevent gender-based violence, challenge negative gender stereotypes, raise awareness among youth, and create leadership opportunities. It is being implemented in four divisions of Bangladesh.

Basically ‘Equality in Youth’ sends a powerful message that the role of youth is indispensable in building an equitable society. Their energy, innovative thinking and leadership can make our society more advanced and prosperous. Therefore, let us all work together to create a society based on equality, where every young individual can realise their potential.

The strength of youth works like a magical force. If the youth are determined, anything is possible. Hence, we must harness their power. The role of youth is unparalleled in changing societal perspectives and restoring equality.
