Police on Thursday recovered the throat-slit body of a leader of Jatyiatabadi Jubo Dal, the youth wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), from a field near Saharabadia and Kamarkhali areas in Meherpur.
The deceased was Alamgir Hossain, 32, president of Ward No 1 of Jubo Dal Gangni Municipality unit and son of Moinuddin Sheikh from Bashabaria village in Gangni upazila of Meherpur.
Police said a handwritten note was also found on the body, stating that the murder was an act of revenge for not marrying after having an extramarital affair.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gangni Police Station Boni Israel quoting family members of the slain, said that Alamin returned home from Dubai two months ago. He went out on Wednesday afternoon and remained traceless since then.
OC said, locals found his body in a field at around 9:30am and later family members identified him. The body bore multiple stab wounds, and the throat was slit.
A handwritten note near the body referenced an unnamed woman, the OC said, adding that police are investigating whether the note's claims are true or it was left to mislead the investigation.
