Former lawmakers from Dhaka-7 and Bhola-2 constituencies, Md Solaiman Salim and Ali Azam Mukul, have been sent to jail in separate murder cases related to the July-August Mass Uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Junaid on Thursday ordered Solaiman’s imprisonment after the investigation officer of the case presented him before the court.
The officer also sought a 10-day remand for Solaiman, following his statement: "Sheikh Hasina will come again." However, the magistrate rejected the remand request, citing the absence of the original case document.
According to the case statement, Md Rakib was shot and injured when Awami League activists attacked the anti-discrimination student movement at Chankharpool intersection on 5 August. Rakib later died during treatment, and his father, Md Jahangir Hossain, filed a murder case at Chawkbazar Model Police Station.
In a separate case, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah's court sent former MP Ali Azam Mukul to jail, rejecting his bail plea.  On 19 July, Nahidul Islam was killed in the Mirpur area of the capital during the anti-discrimination student movement.
The victim's cousin filed a case on 1 September at Mirpur Model Police Station, naming 41 individuals as suspects.
