There will no longer be any “Aynaghar” (house of mirrors) or “Bhater Hotel” (eatery) in the Detective Branch (DB) office under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
DB Additional Commissioner Rezaul Karim Mallik announced this while speaking at the Meet the Press event at DMP media centre in the capital on Saturday.
The DB office will not serve as a hangout spot for celebrities and the authorities will not tolerate any “Bhater Hotel” there, he said.
The “disgraced chapter” of DB would end, and the office would become “a place of justice and accountability”, he added.
“The DB office will be made a people-friendly office and stern action will be taken against the DB personnel if he is engaged in any criminal activity,” he said.
The senior police officer said that unprofessional and highly ambitious police officials made police a controversial force.
“As to why, policemen have miserably lost their self-confidence,” Mallik said.
He assured that the family members of any arrestee or detainee will be informed immediately after his/her arrest or detention.
Unprofessional behaviour will never be tolerated, he warned.
