Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is doubtful for the upcoming edition of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), country’s lone franchise-based T20 tournament, scheduled from 27 December.

Shakib is expected to feature for Rangpur Riders in the BPL but according to their officials it all seems uncertain considering the present state of affair.

“I think his participation in the BPL depends on lots of ifs and buts as there are security issues and all those things. We have to see where he stands as far as returning to Bangladesh is concerned and later we can give a concrete answer in this regard. But at the moment it looks his participation in BPL is doubtful,” a member of Rangpur Riders franchise told Daily Sun on Friday.

Subject to security clearance, Shakib expressed his desire to play the last Test at home against South Africa during a press conference, ahead of the second Test against India in Kanpur.

Shortly after Shakib’s press conference, BCB president Faruque Ahmed said that the board cannot provide him security.

In 2023, Shakib Al Hasan joined Rangpur Riders for the upcoming two editions of BPL and already took part in the last edition of the tournament for the franchise.
