Anisul, Mamun, Shahriar shown arrested in murder cases

Former law minister Anisul Huq and former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun were shown arrested on Monday in a case filed over the murder of Hafez Mohammad Jubayer Ahmed during the quota reform movement on 5 August.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Nurul Huda Chowdhury passed the order after sub-inspector of Adabor Police Station Sarwar Khan Rassel, also investigation officer of the case, submitted an application to the court in this regard.
Both of them are FIR-named accused in the Jubayer murder case.
Anisul and Mamun were present in court during the hearing. On 12 September, the victim's father Mohammad Kamal Uddin filed the murder case with Khilgaon police station against Anisul, Mamun and many others.
Meanwhile, a court on Monday sent former general secretary of Jatiya Press Club and daily Bhorer Kagoj editor Shyamal Dutta to jail in a case filed in connection with the murder of Fazlu in Bhashantek area of the capital during the student-led mass uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Ahmed passed the order as police produced Shaymol Dutta before the court after the end of his seven-day remand in the case.
Earlier on 16 September, Shaymol Dutta along with journalist Mozammel Haque Babu were caught by locals from Dakshin Maizpara and Porakandulia border areas in Dhobaura upazila of Mymensingh.
Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee president Shahriar Kabir was shown arrested in two separate murder cases filed with Jatrabari police station.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tahmina Haque passed the order as police produced Kabir before the court after the end of his seven-day remand in the housemaid Liza murder case.
Police sought to show him arrested in two separate murder cases.
Of the two cases, one was lodged over the killing of Rafikul Islam in Jatrabari area on 19 July.
RMeanwhile, a Sunamganj court on Monday sent former planning minister MA Mannan to jail after rejecting a bail petition in a case over the attacks on students and people during the recent student-led mass uprising in the district.
Sunamganj Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Nirjan Mitra passed the order after hearing the prayer for bail, said the plaintiff’s lawyer Mashuk Alam.
Law enforcement agencies arrested the former minister from his residence in Shantiganj area under Jagannathpur upazila on 19 September.
