Bangladesh Railway (BR) will begin operations of goods-laden trains today while intercity train services will resume on Thursday.
Amid the present situation of the country due to lack of adequate security, the nationwide rail movement has remained inoperative.
Sardar Shahadat Ali, director general (DG) of Bangladesh Railway, said freight trains will begin operations from today, mail or express or local or commuter trains from tomorrow and intercity trains from Thursday.

Parabat and Jamalpur express trains, however, will remain inoperative temporarily, he said, adding that passengers would be able to purchase tickets for intercity trains from 5:00pm Sunday.
The movement of train services has been halted since 19 July. However, oil-laden and important goods-laden services were operative under special arrangements. In the meantime, local and commuter train services were operational on a limited scale but still the movement of intercity train services remained halted since 19 July.
The BR on 3 August declared the closure of train operations across the country. As a result, local and commuter train services have remained inoperative. The railway then informed that the train movement has been kept inoperative due to unavoidable reasons. The rail service shutdown will remain in effect until further notice.
