Forty-five Bangladeshi Nationals, who were in prison in Myanmar, have been released and are expected to return to Bangladesh today.
Bangladesh Embassy in Yangon said the Bangladeshi nationals were scheduled to depart on Saturday from Sittwe in the Rakhine state of Myanmar.
The returnees will be carried by the Myanmar Naval Ship UMS Chin Dwin which is visiting Bangladesh to bring back members of the Myanmar defence force who were forced to cross the border into Bangladesh amid the conflict in Rakhine state.
The ship carrying the returnees is expected to reach Cox’s Bazar by the early hours today. Out of the 45 returnees, most of them are from Cox’s Bazaar, Narshingdi and Narayanganj.
Steadfast efforts of the Bangladesh Embassy in Yangon and Bangladesh Consulate in Sittwe have made it possible to send another batch of Bangladeshi nationals to their families back home.
In the last year, the Bangladesh Embassy in Myanmar actively pursued the coordinated return of 247 Bangladeshi nationals back home.
The last return occurred on 23 April 2023 with 173 Bangladeshis returning home.
