Indian sugar worth Tk2cr seized in Sylhet

Police on Thursday seized 14 trucks loaded with Indian sugar which were going from Companiganj to Jalalabad in Sylhet illegally. This is the biggest consignment seized in the district so far and the estimated value of the sugar is around Tk2 crore.
Indian sugar-laden vehicles were seized in front of the Bhadeswar Government Primary School in Umairgaon area of Companiganj-Jalalabad Road in Sylhet Sadar upazila around 6am.
The trucks were going to Jalalabad while police challenged them. After being chased by law enforcers, the smugglers fled leaving behind the 14 trucks, private car and a motorcycle.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner and Additional DIG Azbahar Ali Sheikh led the operation while Assistant Police Commissioner of Jalalabad Police Station Kamrul Islam, OC Mizanur Rahman, OC Investigation Khaled Mamun and other police officers were present.
Additional DIG Azbahar Ali Sheikh said, “We have seized 14 trucks, 1 private car and 1 motorcycle loaded with illegal Indian sugar during a raid based on secret information.” OC Mizanur Rahman said police are operating drives to arrest the smugglers.
