World Environment Day will be observed in the country as well as elsewhere around the world today in a befitting manner.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Environment Fair and Tree Fair at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, marking World Environment Day, said Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury at a press conference in the meeting room of the environment
ministry on Tuesday. The premier will also inaugurate the National Tree Plantation Programme by planting two saplings of palash and bell trees on the occasion of World Environment Day, he added.
The environment minister said that the environment fair to be held in Sherebangla Nagar will run from 5 June to 11 June and the tree fair will run from 5 July to 13 July 2024. The fair will run from 9am to 8pm every day.
The Bangabandhu Award for Wildlife Conservation 2023 and 2024, the National Environment Medal 2023, and the Prime Minister’s National Award for Plantation 2022 and 2023 will be conferred upon the award winners, while cheques will be distributed among the beneficiaries of the social afforestation programme at the inaugural ceremony.
The minister said that World Environment Day is being celebrated in all districts and upazilas of the country and in 100 educational institutions of Dhaka city.
On the occasion of Environment Day, painting competitions for children, debate, and slogan competitions will be organised at different educational institutions.
The tree fair will be organised at national, divisional, district, and upazila levels. Tree saplings will be distributed to various educational institutions on the occasion.
