A man was killed and another injured in an explosion at a residential building in the capital’s Badda area on Thursday morning.
The deceased was identified as Solaiman, 36, who worked at a hotel. He hails from Palashtali at the Fulbaria upazila in Mymensingh.
The injured person is a housewife named Shanta Begum, 30, wife of Naseeruddin. She suffered severe burns and is now receiving treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
According to the Fire Department and Civil Defence, the explosion occurred on the ground floor of the three-storey building at DIT Road No. 4.
The FSCD suspects that the explosion occurred due to accumulated gas leakage.
However, the fire service said the cause could be confirmed after an investigation.
Mohammad Yasin Ghazi, officer-in-charge of Badda Police Station, told the Daily Sun that the bomb squad visited the site and collected evidence after the incident.
Experts primarily suspected the incident was due to gas, he added.
