BKSP sprinters sweep all U-19, U-17 events

Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) sprinters Delowar Hossain and Sumaiya Akter emerged champions in both men’s and women’s (U-19) 100m events of the Sheikh Kamal 38th National Junior Athletics
Competition 2024.
BKSP also maintained their domination in the U-17 category as their sprinters Shipon Mia and Mim Akter became champions in boys’ and girls’ 100m events on the opening day at the Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS) on Friday.

New fastest U-19 women’s sprinter Sumaiya made a new national record of 12.49 sec after breaking BKSP sprinter Soniya Akter’s previous record of 12.66 sec which was made in 2019.
Among others, fastest U-19 men’s sprinter Delowar took 11.20 sec while fastest U-17 boys’ sprinter Shipon and fastest U-17 girls’ sprinter Mim took 11.37 sec and 12.70 sec respectively to complete their races.
Two more national records were made on this day – Kurigram District Sports Association runner Md Shawon made national record of 4:14.12 min in men’s (U-19) 1500m and BKSP athlete Sharmin Akter made national record of 12.10m in women’s (U-19) shot put.  

Shawon broke the previous record of 4:19.20 min set by Naral DSA runner Bijoy Mollik in 2018 and Sharmin broke BKSP athlete Tahamina Akter Lopa’s previous record 10.42m which was made in 2016.
Meanwhile, a total of 392 athletes – 71 boys, 99 girls, 162 men and 60 women – are taking part in 14 U-17 and 27 U-19 events this year.
The top three athletes will be awarded with Tk 3,000, Tk 2000 and Tk 1000 respectively.
Prime Minister's Office Secretary Mohammad Salah Uddin formally inaugurated the three-day meet as the chief guest on this day.
