BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged all to work for democracy and the country’s people setting aside divisions.
“Unfortunately, divisions have been created in the country. Everyone should come out of the divisions, and work for the people of Bangladesh and establishing democracy,” he said while talking to reporters after paying tributes to leftist leader Haider Akbar Khan Rano at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital on Monday.

BNP leaders Barkatullah Bulu, Monirul Haque Chowdhury, Abdus Salam, Mostafijur Rahman Babul and Jahiruddin Swapan were also present.
Meanwhile, the BNP Liaison Committee held meetings with the top leaders of Jatiyatabadi Shamamana Jote and Bangladesh Labour Party at the party chairperson’s Gulshan office in the afternoon. BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan and Vice-Chairman Mohammad Shahjahan, among others, were present at the meetings. “We discussed various issues, including the latest political and social situation of the country, state crisis and border killings. We agreed that we’ll hold simultaneous programmes on the issues,” Nazrul Islam said. Replying to a query about the visit of US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu who arrives in Dhaka today, he said the visit is not important to the opposition.
