Sathi Akter’s father was a rickshaw-puller. Being sick, he is now unable to earn money by pulling rickshaws. The situation compelled Sathi’s mother to work as a domestic worker. Despite poverty, Sathi’s parents are educating her and her elder brother.

Sathi reads in Class V at Ibrahimpur Government Primary School in the capital’s Kochukhet area. Her brother also reads in Class IX at a local school. Sathi and her family live in Mirpur-14’s Goalbari locality. With the meagre income of her mother, it is difficult to run the family.

Although Sathi got books from her school, she needed some books to assist her in studying. The schooling of the girl was about to stop as she was unable to buy khatas and pens due to a dearth of money. Members of the Bashundhara Shuvosangho Kafrul unit somehow came to know about the girl’s woes and they bought essential books, khatas, and pens for her.

Recently, books and educational materials were handed over to Sathi Akter at Bashundhara Shuvosangho School (Campus-1) in Dhaka’s Mirpur area. Getting books on behalf of Bashundhara Shuvosangho, Sathi Akter said, “My education was being hampered due to poverty. Because of poverty, I could not buy books and khatas. From now on, I shall never face any problems in my study. Now, I shall be able to study without worrying.”
