The BNP has served show-cause notices to 61 more local leaders who are participating in the second phase of the upazila parishad elections, violating the party decision.
The party has said the leaders will be expelled from the party if they are unable to give proper reply to the show-cause notices within the stipulated time.
Confirming the matter, BNP Assistant Office Secretary Taiful Islam Tipu on Thursday said show-cause notices have been issued to the leaders for violating the party decision.
Officials at the BNP central office said the party has served show-cause notices to at least 61 more leaders on Wednesday and Thursday and they have been asked to reply within 48 hours.
The leaders who have received show-cause notices are vying for the posts of chairman, vice-chairman and women vice-chairman in the upcoming upazila parishad polls.
According to BNP central office sources, out of the 61 leaders, 25 are participating in the second phase of the election for the post of chairman, 20 for the post of vice-chairman (male) and 16 for the post of vice-chairman (female).
Earlier, the BNP expelled 80 leaders from all posts, including scrapping their primary membership of the party, for participating in the first phase of the upazila parishad election.
