BUET, JU on top among Bangladeshi unis

Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET) and Jahangirnagar University (JU) were the top ranked universities in the country, according to the UK-based magazine Times Higher Education’s Asia University Ranking-2024.
No Bangladeshi university secured a place among the top 300 Asian universities in that list.
A total of 739 universities from 31 Asian countries have been ranked in it. The Times Higher Education has ranked the universities by employing 18 performance metrics, including teaching, research, imparting knowledge and global perspective.
BUET and JU were ranked in 301-350 in the latest edition of the Asia University Ranking.
Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) and North South University (NSU) were placed in the 351-400 group. Dhaka University (DU), BRAC University, and Rajshahi University (RU) were in 401-500. In the 501-600 group ranking were Khulna University (KU) and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST).
Twelve other Bangladeshi universities were mentioned in the list published on the Times Higher Education website, but their ranking was not published. These institutions were: Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Daffodil International University, American International University Bangladesh, Dhaka International University, Independent University Bangladesh, Jashore University of Science and Technology, United International University, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, International University of Business Agriculture and Technology, Varendra University and World University of Bangladesh.
In the previous edition of the ranking, Dhaka University was ranked 186th and North South University 192nd. However, this time the rankings of these two universities have fallen.
This year, 21 Bangladeshi universities have been ranked in the list, while 15 were ranked last year.
Tsinghua University of China is at the top of the Asian universities in the ranking, followed by Peking University of China in the second position, and National University of Singapore in the third.
Five universities of China, two of Singapore and Hong Kong each, and one of Japan have made it to the top ten in the Times Higher Education’s Asia University Ranking-2024.
