A tribunal on Monday convicted a man and sentenced him to death for killing his niece after rape in Natore district in 2019.
Natore Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim handed down the punishment. The tribunal also fined Tk20,000 to the condemned convict Shahadat, 35 of Deugacha village in Singra upazila of the district.
According to the prosecution, Abdur Razzaque of Deugacha village in Singra upazila along with his wife Sonavan went to one of his relatives’ houses, leaving behind his 16-year-old daughter alone on 4 August 2016.
Finding his niece alone at the house, the convict Shahadat violated the girl and strangled her to death. However, local people caught Shahadat red-handed while he was trying to flee the scene. A case was filed in this connection.
