Noted actor Misha Sawdagar has been elected as the new president of Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association while Monowar Hossain Dipjol secured the position of general secretary of the organisation.
The 18th edition of the association’s elections was held at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) on Friday.
Khorshed Alam Khosru, the Chief Election Commissioner, announced the results in the early hours of Saturday.
Misha Sawdagar got 265 votes, while his rival Mahmud Koli bagged 170 votes. Monowar Hossain Dipjol clinched the general secretary position with 225 votes, surpassing Nipun Akter who received 209 votes, falling short by 17 votes.
With 234 and 231 votes, DA Tayed and Masum Parvez Rubel retained their positions as vice-presidents, defeating actor Amit Hasan and Danny Sidak who received 229 and 176 votes, respectively.
Among other candidates, actor Arman (237) and actor Joy Chowdhury (250) have been elected as the new joint secretary and organising secretary respectively.
Mamnun Emon was elected as the ecretary for culture and sports again while Komol secured the position of treasurer in the election.  
Actors Ali Raj, Chunnu, Dilara Yasmin, Nana Shah, Poli, Rozina, Rotna Kabir, Shahnoor, Sucharita, Shubroto and Sony Rahman have been elected as the executive members of Bangladesh Film Artistes Associations.  
International Affairs Secretary Alexender Bow (286) received the highest votes among all the candidates.     
A total of 570 were listed as voters for this year’s election, while 475 cast their ballots to elect the new executive body. The EC rejected 41 votes for various reasons.
