Historic Mujibnagar Day observed

The nation on Wednesday observed historic Mujibnagar Day in a befitting manner, commemorating the oath-taking programme of the provisional government of Bangladesh in 1971.

The government and ruling Awami League (AL) took various programmes to observe the momentous day. The day’s programmes began when the party leaders hoisted national and party flags atop all AL offices across the country including its central office and Bangabandhu Bhaban premises in the morning.

Later, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid glowing tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
by placing a wreath at his portrait at Dhanmondi 32 in the capital at 7:00am.

Flanked by senior leaders of her party, Sheikh Hasina, also the president of ruling Awami League (AL), placed another wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu on behalf of her party a few minutes later.
Leaders and activists of AL also placed wreaths at the graves of Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmad and M Mansur Ali at Banani Graveyard in Dhaka.
The historic day was observed in Meherpur’s Mujibnagar as well.

National flag was hoisted in front of Sheikh Hasina Mancha in Mujibnagar Amrakanon at around 9:30am.
A discussion was organised by Bangladesh Awami League in association with the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and district administration there.
Awami League joint general secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim presided over the discussion while AL presidium member Kazi Zafar Ullah addressed it as the chief guest.
