200 impoverished women in Cumilla hope to attain solvency

With the assistance of Bashundhara Group, the country’s largest and leading industrial conglomerate, and at the initiative of Bashundhara Shuvosangho, a free sewing training course is underway for impoverished women of 10 upazilas in Cumilla district.

After the training course, 200 insolvent women from the 10 upazilas will get high-standard sewing machines. In the meantime, the poverty-stricken women are toiling hard to improve their skills.

Cherishing a dream to attain solvency, these women are taking sewing training attentively. In 10 upazilas of Cumilla, the sewing training course has been going on in full swing for the past month. Now, the only dream of these women is to become self-reliant.

The members of civil society in every locality are bound to say that Bashundhara Group is working for the prosperity of the country and the welfare of its people in the right sense. Because of their initiative, rural women are becoming solvent.

The upazilas where the sewing training course is going on are Homna, Daudkandi, Muradnagar, Chandina, Debidwar, Laksham, Monoharganj, Lalmai, Nangolkot, and Chauddagram. In Debidwar upazila, 20 female participants envisage becoming solvent. They attained the willpower to do something good.

A trainee named Sharmi Ilme Jahan said, “Everyone curses poverty. A lot of people look at poverty suspiciously. When a woman gets assurance of a job, including social security, her family attains solvency. With the assistance of Bashundhara Group, my dream is going to be fulfilled through sewing training.”

“Sewing training is not only a tool for a woman to get established in life but also a tool for attaining solvency for countless people,” said Swapna Akter. She said, “I dream to become a major entrepreneur in the future." The free sewing training course that I undergo with the help of Bashundhara Group shows me the path towards fulfilment of my dream.

My husband is a disabled person who repairs mobile phones. He walks with the help of a crutch. Depending on her income, it is very difficult to run a family, including the education of a girl child. When Bashundhara Group gives me a sewing machine after my training course, I will be able to earn money alongside my husband, bringing prosperity to the family.”

“At a tender age, my husband abandoned me along with two children. I somehow run the family, doing work at other people’s houses. Bashundhara Group owners are imparting sewing training to us. They have also assured us they will give us sewing machines. If I get a machine, I shall be able to stand on my feet,” said Bilkis Begum, a woman of Durgapur village who was abandoned by her husband and is now undergoing training at the Daudkandi branch of the Bashundhara Shuvosangho Sewing Training Centre.

Like Bilkis Begum, lots of women, also victims of deprivation, are dreaming of changing their lives by taking sewing training in Cumilla’s Daudkandi branch of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Sewing Training Centre. A competent trainer is imparting training to them regularly in the classroom of Gouripur Future ICT School in Daudkandi upazila.

With the financial assistance of Bashundhara Group, the country’s largest and leading industrial conglomerate, Bashundhara Shuvosangho has initiated a free three-month training course for innumerable hapless women of different upazilas in the district. Their aim is to make the women self-reliant. Helpless women studying in colleges in different villages are taking training here.

Rabeya Akhter, 16, is such a trainee. She is studying in Class X at a local school. She has no parents. She is studying and staying at her aunt’s house. Rabeya Akter said, “I lost my mother during my childhood. Although my father is alive, he does not exist in reality, as he went away to marry another woman.
