The Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested a system analyst of Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) for allegedly preparing around 5,000 certificates through illegal means.
He sold each certificate for Tk15,000–50,000. A team of DB Lalbagh Division under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested the analyst named Engineer AKM Shamsuzzaman and his associate Faisal after conducting drives at Agargaon and Pirerbag in the capital on Monday morning.

A large number of certificates and certificate-making materials were seized from them.
Mashiur Rahman, deputy commissioner (DB Lalbagh) of the DMP, said that Shamsuzzaman stole certificate-making papers from the education board and made the certificates through a printing press. If anybody searched online to verify the certificates, he or she found the originals.

Shamsuzzaman was questioned before the mass media. Responding to the questions, he confessed that he, with the help of others, made the certificates and sold them for Tk15,000–50,000 each.
He said that the previous system analyst also committed the same crime.
Shamsuzzaman added that some other people were involved in the crimes.

After the arrest, the Bangladesh Technical Education Board temporarily suspended Shamsuzzaman. An officer order signed by board chairman Ali Akbar Khan was issued on Monday.
In the meantime, Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury (Nowfel) said that they are suspecting that many other people have involvement in the illegal practice. All those involved will be brought to book, he said.
