The body of Arshad Waliur Rahman, the son of late Transcom Group founder Latifur Rahman, is likely to be exhumed from the grave soon for autopsy.
On Sunday, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Gulshan Police Station Sohel Rana, also the investigation officer of a case filed over the alleged murder of Arshad Waliur, sought permission from a Dhaka court to appoint a first-class magistrate to dig the deceased grave, exhume his body and send it to hospital for carrying out a postmortem.
Majeharul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station, confirmed the matter to the Daily Sun. He said they already identified Waliur’s grave at the Banani graveyard.
“We have made significant headway in the case. We, however, did not detain or arrest anybody so far,” he said.
Sources said the investigation of the case might go to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).
As the case is very sensitive and it would take time to reach a conclusion, it might be handed over to the PBI, the sources said.
Early on Friday, Shahzreh Huq, the younger daughter of Latifur Rahman, filed the case against her elder sister and Transcom CEO Simeen Rahman for her alleged involvement in the ‘murder’ of their brother Arshad Waliur Rahman, who was divorced and childless.
Ten others were made accused in the case.
They are Simeen Rahman’s son and Transcom Limited’s Head of Transformation Zaraif Ayat Hossain, Executive Director of Corporate Affairs (Law) Fakhruzzaman Bhuiyan, 60, Director of Corporate Finance Kamrul Hasan, 61, Manager of Corporate Affairs Selina Sultana, 45, Manager of Corporate Affairs KH Md Shahadat Hossain, 50, Manager (Medical Affairs) of Eskayef Pharmaceuticals Murad Hossain, 50, Marketing and Sales Department Executive Director Dr Md Mujahidul Islam, 55, Md Zahid Hossain, 55, Arshad’s chef Rafiq, 55, and his driver Mirazul, 40.
According to the case statement, the accused in collaboration with one another ‘killed’ the victim either strangulation or poisoning aiming to prevent him from claiming a share of the family wealth.
On 17 June last year, Arshad Waliur Rahman, a member of the board of directors of the Transcom Group, died.
Earlier in February, Shahzreh Haque had filed three cases against her elder sister, mother, and eight Transcom officials at the Gulshan police station.
Later, five Transcom officials were arrested on 22 February. A Dhaka court released them on bail on the condition that they would surrender their passports before the court, but they breached the condition. As to why, the bail was cancelled later on.
