Govt publishes 118 more names

The government has published the list of 118 more martyred intellectuals taking the total number to 560.

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq released the list of the fourth batch of martyred intellectuals in a press conference at the ministry on Sunday.

The final list of martyred intellectuals will be announced by 14 December this year, the minister told newsmen.
If anyone’s name needs to be included in the list before the publication of the final list, it will be considered, he added.

The list of 560 martyred intellectuals include 198 teachers, 113 doctors, 51 lawyers, 40 engineers, 37 government and private employees, 29 philanthropists, 20 politicians, 18 journalists, 18 writers, 3 scientists, a philosopher, a researcher and a painter. Besides, 30 people associated with culture and other branches of film, drama, music and arts have been included in the list of martyred intellectuals.

About the list of Razakar, the minister said that a committee was formed to make the list. However, that committee has not been able to provide the ministry with any list.

On 7 April 2021, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs published the names of 191 martyred
intellectuals in the form of a gazette. Then on 29 May 2022, the list of 143 martyred intellectuals was published in the second phase and another 108 in the third phase on 15 February.

Madhuda in the list
Madhusudan Dey, popularly known as Madhuda, a tea shopkeeper of Dhaka University area, has been recognised as a martyred intellectual.

About his induction in the list Minister Mozammel Huq said, “Madhuda of Dhaka University was neither a teacher, nor a writer. He was such a person who was very well known to everyone in Dhaka University. He played a unique role in all the movements related to independence and therefore has been included in the list under special consideration.”

It was also informed at the press brief that Madhuda had a certificate signed by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, where Bangabandhu recognised him as an intellectual.
