Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto said on Monday that there is no need to get excited with young leg-spinner Rishad Hossain but added that he has all the credentials to become a white-ball package.
Rishad, who is considered to be primarily a leg-spinner, had shown his potential with the bat by making a blistering unbeaten knock of 18-ball 48 that included five fours and four sixes to help the hosts clinch the series.

Rishad came to the crease when Bangladesh needed 58 runs to win in 13.5 overs. The tall right-hander opened his account with a first-ball six off Wanindu Hasaranga and followed that with another four and a six in the same over to set the tone of the game for the hosts.

Najmul backs Rishad as a ‘white-ball package’Rishad took 24 runs in the 40th over bowled by Hasaranga where he hit two successive sixes and three consecutive fours to seal the game for Bangladesh. “Yes (looks like a white-ball package),” Najmul told reporters at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium after the game.

“I think he is a very good fielder. He is improving his batting gradually and his bowling is very important. He took a wicket today which is good for the team,” he said.
“But I don’t think we need to be too excited about it because he still has a lot of areas to improve.

“We don’t have too many leg-spinners in our country and if you see from the New Zealand series he is bowling well. As far as his batting is concerned, his batting has improved a lot from what it was during the New Zealand series. However, there are still areas to improve. “He is working on it (his batting) and when there is a player of that calibre in the team, it certainly makes things easier for the captain,” he said.
Najmul added that he is not surprised with the performance of Tanzid Hasan Tamim coming as a concussion substitute of Soumya Sarkar as he feels in this era of cricket, everyone is prepared to come at any point during a game.

Tanzid (84 off 81 balls) became the highest scorer coming as a concussion substitute after Soumya fell hard while attempting to save a boundary. Soumya was hit on the advertisement billboard and in the process, he felt stiffness in the neck and also complained of a headache and vision difficulties.
Ahead of the series, Bangladeshi coaching members spent a lot of time in the nets with Tanzid and it proved dividends as he hardly looked out of sorts in the middle despite coming in the game as a concussion substitute.

“Look at this time with the rule of concussion, any player can play at any time and everyone is told to prepare accordingly. That is the reason he never looked unprepared in his innings. He played well but should have carried on until the last,” he added.
