Ruling Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday said that BNP is playing ‘blame game’, as the party has failed to understand the political reality of the country.
“The party like BNP is unable to realize the reality of politics. Now it is proved that they are moving out of reality.”
Obaidul Quader, also the Minister for Road Transport and Bridges, said these at a press conference at the political office of the AL President at Dhanandi in the capital.

Referring to the two city corporation elections held on Saturday, Quader said, “Even after these elections, there is no justification for BNP to speak against the government about the elections.”
Commenting that BNP is getting stuck in the ‘trap of mistakes’, he said, “The fact that so many elections have been held, today in the politics of Bangladesh, it has been proved that the democracy of this country is safe in the hands of Sheikh Hasina. As long as the country is in her control, Bangladesh will not lose its way. She understands the reality of Bangladesh, understands the language of people’s mind.”
“BNP has nothing to do with reality. Because they don’t sense people’s pulses, they don’t understand the language of the mind. That’s why they are gradually becoming alienated in politics. Gradually they are getting stuck in the trap of mistake,” Quader added.
Two months after the 12th parliamentary elections, Mymensingh and Cumilla City Corporation, six municipalities and more than two hundred local government posts went to the polls on Saturday. Awami League did not give party symbol or nomination in this election amid exclusion of BNP.
Ikramul Haque Titu was elected mayor of Mymensingh while Tahseen Bahar Shuchona was elected in Cumilla. They are both leaders of Awami League.
Obaidul Quader expressed satisfaction with the turnout of voters in the elections and said, “People have elected their representatives in a peaceful and festive atmosphere.”
Election Commission sources said that an average of 60% voters voted in these elections. The government did not interfere in any way. A couple of isolated incidents occurred. People at all levels of local government elected their representatives in a peaceful and festive atmosphere.

The AL General Secretary also said, “BNP leaders also participated in elections in many places and in some places their leaders won. Awami League had no party symbol in the election. There was no opportunity for anyone to campaign as a ruling party candidate or nominee.”
It was the first press briefing of Obaidul Quader after his return from Singapore.
AL Organizing Secretaries BM Mozammel Haque, Abu Sayeed Al Mahmood Swapon, SM Kamal Hossain, Afzal Hossain and Sujit Roy Nandi, Office Secretary Biplab Barua, Cultural Affairs Secretary Asim Kumar Ukil, Deputy Office Sayem Khan were present, among others.
