A Dhaka court on Thursday acquitted Khadijatul Kubra, a student of Jagannath University (JnU), in a case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA) at the Newmarket Police Station in the capital.
With the latest development, Khadija, who was released from Kashimpur Women’s Jail in November, was acquitted from the two cases filed against her under the DSA.
On completion of Thursday’s hearing, Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge AM Zulfikar Hayat passed the order as the court did not find any evidence to form a charge against her.
Earlier, on 28 January, Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge AM Zulfikar Hayat acquitted her in another DSA case filed with the Kalabagan police station.
The cases, filed in October 2020, alleged that Khadijatul Kubra and Maj (retd)Delwar Hossain had disseminated anti-government sentiments online, thereby tarnishing the image of Bangladesh.
The complaints were lodged by sub-inspectors Khairul Islam from New Market Police Station and Arif Hossain from Kalabagan Police Station, who, while on duty, encountered videos of Khadijatul Kubra and Major (retd) Delwar Hossain on YouTube via their mobile phones, prompting them to file reports at their respective stations.
Following a lengthy 15-month imprisonment, Khadija was released from Kashimpur Central Jail on 20 November last.
