The country is facing a fresh surge in the number of coronavirus patients, as 1,210 cases were recorded throughout the country in the last four weeks while seven deaths were reported during the period.
In January, 838 cases and five deaths were reported.
On the other hand, 83 individuals tested positive for the respiratory disease as 1,327 samples were tested in the past 24 hours until 8am on Tuesday, bringing the total number of Covid cases to 2,048,360, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

No new death from Covid-19 was reported during the period, meaning the total number of deaths from the disease remain unchanged at 29,489. The infection rate has been above 5% for around last two months while the daily positivity rate is now 6.25%.
On 18 January, Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) said that the JN.1 sub-variant was found in the samples of four patients.
DGHS officials said there is nothing to worry about the new sub-variant of coronavirus. They laid emphasis on sticking to health guidelines, including wearing face masks.
“It’s a sub-variant of Omicron variant. Earlier, Omicron variant couldn’t influence the rise in infection in Bangladesh,” Prof Dr Nazmul Islam, director (Disease Control) of the DGHS, told the Daily Sun.
