Two more factories in Bangladesh have achieved the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification with the total number climbing to 209.
The two new factories are Comfit Eco Ville at Mirzapur of Tangail and Fakir Eco Knitwears Ltd at Kayempur of Narayanganj.
Both the factories have a platinum certification of 85 points, said Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
Platinum is the highest ranking achievable within the LEED framework.
With this achievement, Bangladesh holds 54 of the top 100 and 18 of the top 20 in LEED Green Factory rankings worldwide.
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan said, “Bangladesh now boasts a total of 209 LEED green factories. Of them, the number of Platinum reached 79, while 116 earned Gold status.”
The growing number of LEED Green Factories in Bangladesh is a testament to the industry's unwavering commitment to sustainability, he said.
BGMEA chief added, "Our members have consistently shown exceptional leadership in adopting eco-friendly practices, from energy-efficient operations to water conservation initiatives.”
“This dedication to environmental responsibility is not only
commendable but also essential for ensuring the long-term sustainability of our industry." he said.
Faruque Hassan said the industry’s remarkable commitment to sustainability has placed Bangladesh prominently on the global map of environmentally conscious manufacturing.
“The country is now home to 54 of the top 100 highest-rated LEED Green Factories in the world. Not only that, 9 out of top 10, and 18 out of the top 20 highest-rated LEED Green Factories are in Bangladesh."
“Of them, one stands out as the highest-rated LEED Green Factory globally,” the BGMEA boss said.
He said, “This continued momentum in environment friendly industrialisation proves our commitment toward sustainable manufacturing practices.”
He said that the global community is taking notice of Bangladesh's green factory initiatives, and already buyers are also coming forward and investing in green energy infrastructure in Bangladesh, which is quite unique.
"A critical foundation is being built in our industry at this moment, and I am sure our economy will continue to reap the benefit of the efforts made by the entrepreneurs in the RMG industry," Faruque Hassan stated.
