Their training started three months ago. At that time, a commitment was made that each of the trainees would get a sewing machine for free on completion of the training course. On many occasions, these women used to hear lots of promises from many individuals, but most of the promises remained unfulfilled.
Because of the reason, the destitute women of Bogura remained uncertain whether the promises would be fulfilled at all or not. But they were overwhelmed observing that the promises of Bashundhara Shuvosangho were fulfilled before expiry of three months. These marginalized women could not even imagine that Bashundhara Group would come forward so promptly to materialize their dreams of becoming self-sufficient. When East West Media Group Ltd (EWMGL) Director and Kaler Kantho Chief Editor Imdadul Haq Milan, also a noted litterateur, handed over the sewing machines to them, their joy knew no bound. On behalf of Bashundhara Group, 20 insolvent women got sewing machines on completion of their training at Barakumira Hapuniapara under Erulia Union in Bogura Sadar Upazila.
Upon receiving the sewing machine, Beauty Begum, a mother of two children, could not hold back her emotions. She said, “I’ll pray for you people. The manner in which you stood beside poor people is rare among our own people. One of my children studies at Bashundhara Shuvosangho School, while I am learning sewing.”
“I’m fully satisfied with getting the sewing machine after three months. Now, I’ll be able to earn a living.” Another trainee, Sathi Begum, said, “All of us pray for them (Bashundhara Group) so that they remain well. We pray so that they can always come to the aid of the country’s poor people.”
While handing over the sewing machines, litterateur Imdadul Haq Milan said, “Bashundhara Shuvosangho School was established earlier in this backward Hapuniapara. When we visited the school at the beginning of last year, local women told us about their insolvency. On behalf of Bashundhara Group, a sewing training center has been established to make these women economically solvent by imparting training to them for free.”
“These 20 women who took training passed their entire lives in tough struggle. Many of their husbands are missing, while some others have no parents. Even the incomes of some of their husbands are inadequate to meet their family needs. As per the directive of Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, sewing machines were distributed to the women after a thorough selection procedure in an attempt to make them self-reliant,” he added.
By sewing clothes with these machines, they will definitely earn something, which will undoubtedly meet their family expenses. At the initiative of Bashundhara
Shuvosangho, similar training centers have been established in different parts of the country.
By undertaking training in these centres, hundreds of women have the opportunity to earn an additional income. Not only training was imparted to them, but also everyone got a sewing machine at the conclusion of the training course. As a consequence, they have been able to somehow fulfill their family requirements by earning money without investing any money. Expressing his expectation of establishing an institution centering Bashundhara Shuvosangho School, he further said, “Alongside the school, there will be a training center, a library, and a computer training centre. On behalf of Bashundhara Group, everything will be done to make the backward people of society solvent enough.”
