League leaders Rangpur Riders will be looking to clinch their eighth successive win in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League when they take on Fortune Barishal in their penultimate league match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram today.
Rangpur are currently leading the points table with eight wins from 10 games and they are the only side which has confirmed their playoff berth so far in the ongoing 10th edition of the competition.
Ahead of the contest, Rangpur had completed a practice session at the ZACS and their head coach Sohel Islam expressed his confidence in continuing their brilliant run against Barishal as well.
“We aren’t thinking too much about Barishal game. We want to continue the process,” Sohel told reporters after the practice session.
“It’s a matter of great relief for us that our star cricketer Shakib Al Hasan has regained his form. When he is in form, everyone in the team gets encouragement.
“We have two matches against Barishal and Comilla Victorians in the league phase. We will definitely try to finish in the top two and we are getting mentally prepared for it,” he added.
Meanwhile, Barishal, who started the tournament with only one win in their first four games, bounced back strongly in the next matches as they won five out of their last six games.
The win against Rangpur will also confirm their playoff berth in the tournament and they will definitely take inspiration from their first-leg match against Rangpur which they won by five wickets in Dhaka on 20 January.
