Dhaka University (DU) on Monday condemned in the strongest possible terms an attack on its cricket team at the final match against Rajshahi University (RU) at the RU field during the Inter-University Cricket Tournament.
When the DU was on the verge of victory, several hundred students from RU rushed onto the pitch and assaulted the players of DU cricket team, resulting in serious injuries to five to six of them, says a press release sent by the office of DU Public Relations. "Such attacks are unacceptable and unexpected. It was the responsibility of Rajshahi University authorities to ensure safety during the tournament.
