Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder said Bangladesh has become a food sufficient country. The government is now working to ensure safe and nutritious food for all.
The minister said this while inaugurating ‘Safe Food Carnival’ at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital on Thursday.
Urging all to come forward to ensure safe food, Minister Sadhan also said safe food is required to build a healthy, strong and talented nation.
“It costs a little more to get quality food. But everyone should have the mentality of taking less but quality food” the minister added.
Sadhan Chandra said, “If the food is cheap, there is a tendency to consume more. In this case,it should be bought only after confirming the quality.”
“The quality of exportable food items must be ensured to gain confidence of foreign buyers,” the minister said, adding that once a huge number of shrimps were exported from our country, but it got hampered when harmful jelly was detected in those items.
The minister urged the religious leaders and school teachers to create awareness about the necessity of safe food.
Food Secretary Md Ismail Hossain addressed the programme as special guest, with Bangladesh Safe Food Authority Chairman Md Abdul Kayowm Sarker in the chair.
