Lack of rotating the strike is hurting Bangladesh in T20s: Liton

Comilla Victorians skipper Liton Das on Wednesday admitted that due to the lack of rotating the strike and constructing the innings through ones and twos by the middle-order batsmen, Bangladesh are struggling in the shortest format.
A similar thing is happening in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League which is regarded as a platform for Bangladeshi batters to prepare for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled in USA and West Indies in June.
Usually, a BPL team is formed with foreigners playing up in order to provide a blazing start and other overseas players coming at the end of the innings to give the last push.
Meanwhile, the local players are given the responsibility of guiding the team during the middle overs.
Although that was not the case for Comilla on Wednesday, it remains the case with the Bangladesh national cricket team in most of the T20Is.
“It can be the case,” Liton said when he was asked whether the national cricket team suffers due to the fact the middle-order batsmen failed to rotate the strike.
“Firstly, we are not power hitters and we don’t have too much strength on our body like hitting sixes at our will. But you can see (players playing in ones and twos) are scoring runs regularly in T20s,” he said.
“They are playing on ones and twos and in between, they look for boundaries. We have the same challenge and we are trying to do that (construct our innings by rotating the strike) and hopefully we will learn it in the coming days,” he said.
Meanwhile, Liton said that he is happy to contribute with the bat but added that he did not lose his sleep as he was not getting runs in the ongoing cash-rich tournament.
Liton, who scored 45 off 30 balls that included two fours and four sixes, said that he was hardly feeling any pressure despite remaining a pale shadow of his potential in the last five games where he failed to deliver miserably making 13,14,8,0 and 2 before coming up with some runs against Khulna Tigers.
“I don’t play for fifty. I don’t feel like I would change as Liton Das. We were discussing during drinks about how to play out that overs normally. Then I started to play in an attacking mode from the next over but somehow if we managed to play out that over after drinks, we could have played freely and that’s what I regret,” he concluded.
