Chattogram Challengers moved to the second position in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League points table after they beat Fortune Barishal by 16 runs during their seventh match in Mirpur on Tuesday.
Sent into bat first, Chattogram’s New Zealand recruit Tom Bruce struck an unbeaten 50 off 40 balls while their Australian recruit Josh Brown made 38 off 23 balls to help their side post 145-5 in 20 overs.
Barishal’s Mohammad Imran took 2-31 in his four overs.
Barishal, in reply, were very much in the contest until the 15th over but Tamim Iqbal’s (49) dismissal to pacer Shohidul Islam (3-13) brought Chattogram back in the contest.
Mohammad Saifuddin, who was playing his first BPL game this year, struck an unbeaten 30 off 18 balls but his effort went in vain as Barishal could make 129-8 in their stipulated overs.
It was Barishal’s fourth defeat in seven games and they remained in fifth position with six points.
