The Election Commission (EC) is taking all out preparations to conduct voting in 452 eligible upazilas.
An EC meeting led by Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal will be held today where the dates and phases of the upazila parishad elections may be fixed, EC sources said.
Generally, elections are not held in all upazilas in a day. The elections will be held in phases, said Election Commission Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath, adding that after Tuesday’s (today) meeting, everything about the election would be clear.
 There are 495 upazila parishads in the country. The last upazila parishad election started on 10 March 2019. The five-phase voting ended in June that year.
According to the law, the term of upazila parishad starts from the day of the first meeting. The elected council serves for the next five years. Election is mandatory within 180 days before the expiry of the council.
The fifth upazila parishad election was held in 2019, with elections of 455 upazila parishads in five phases from March to June that year.
