Ex-Ramgarh mayor killed as microbus collided head-on with a jeep in Ctg; biker dies in collision with private car on Hanif Flyover

Former Mayor Md Delwar of Ramgarh Municipality in Khagrachhari district was killed and 10 others were injured in separate road accidents in the port city and district on Friday.
Sources said a microbus collided head on with a jeep, locally known as ‘Chader Gari,’ at Rastar Matha area near Fatikchhari Upazila Health Complex of Chattogram-Khagrachhari Highway at around 10:00am.
Delwar, his wife and five others were left injured in the accident and were rushed to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for further treatment.
Later in the afternoon, Delwar died while undergoing treatment at CMCH, they said.
Earlier on Friday early hours, four policemen were injured when a pickup truck hit a patrol van at Charpara of Outer Link Road in the city’s Patenga area.
The injured were identified as Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Azizul Haque, Constables Nazrul Islam, Moshiur Rahman and Sujan Khan of Patenga police station.
Deputy Commissioner (Port) Shakila Sultana of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) said a chilli-laden pickup van hit the patrol van at that time leaving four cops injured.
The injured were undergoing treatment at CMCH, she said, adding that the pickup was seized while the driver managed to flee.
Meanwhile, a motorcyclist died and his pillion rider was injured after a collision with a private car on the Hanif Flyover
in Dhaka's Jatrabari area on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Md Shahin, 22, a motorcycle mechanic and injured Md Azim, 20, a motorcycle parts seller.
The incident happened when the duo was going to Bangshal. Locals rescued them and took them to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the duty doctor declared Shahin dead. Azim is currently undergoing treatment at the emergency department.
DMCH Police Outpost In-Charge Md Bachchu Mia confirmed the matter.
The body was kept at the morgue for autopsy, he said.
