2 arrested for ‘threatening’ meat trader with life

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two people for allegedly threatening to kill a beef trader, who gained popularity on social media for selling meat at affordable prices.
The arrestees are Nurul Haque, 67, and Mohammad Emon, 22.
RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Commander Khandaker Al Moin claimed that they were arrested on Saturday night from Ashulia area under Savar and they claimed that they confessed about their crime during preliminary interrogation.
Moin said, “Nurul Haque has a Dish and internet business in the Charigram area of Pathalia Union of Ashulia. He had around 500 clients and he was facing opposition by a group to continue the business. One contacted him and gave him the personal mobile number of popular meat trader Khalil in Dhaka for threatening him with life and in return he was guaranteed hassle free business.”
On 18 January, Khalilur Rahman said that he got a call on his mobile phone and the caller demanded Tk25 lakh and threatened to kill Khalil and his son by shooting if they failed to meet the demand.
